The Perks of Being a Wallflower: Is it just another coming-of-age book?

The Perks of Being a Wallflower is a typical yet entertaining coming of age book written by Steven Chbosky. The storyline revolves around a freshman boy, Charlie, who shares his new experiences in the form of letters to an anonymous friend. From watching movies with his family, to experimenting with LSD, several teenage activities are approached and discussed on a more personal level. Although the theme is similar to many adolescent books, this book truly shines in the main character’s comical and innocent interpretations of the sometimes-controversial topics. I highly recommended this text for teenagers and adults, not for its complexity or intellectual depth, but for its ability to create a laugh and put a smile on the reader’s face. Even better, the movie of the book will be released in 2012!
