This painting entitled Approaching Thunder Storm, Martin Johnson Heade, is a painting of romanticism. This painting main focus is on nature. The painter shows little inlet that has not been taken over by the thunderstorm yet. The painting also dramatizes how everything moves from dark to light. Everything farther away in the painting is dark and cloud covered while objects become closer they become illuminated because of the sun. Just opposite like The Scarlet Letter the man in the painting sitting on a plank is being shined on by the sun but in The Scarlet Letter Hester is not shined upon by the sun when she is in the forest until The Scarlet Letter finally falls off, then she is shined upon.
This painting can be found in the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York City
