Disguises

Phoebe pursuing Rosalind disguised as Ganymede. As in many of Shakespeare’s plays there is the theme of mistaken identity. In “As you Like it”, we see Shakespeare’s genius as work. Throughout this play Rosalind disguise herself as a boy to seek out the thoughts on what Orlando truly thinks of her. She also gives advise to him on what he should to to win over her heart. In Act IV Rosalind’s disguise leads to a comical scene. Phoebe thinks that Rosalind is really a boy and tries to woo her. The audience finds this funny because we know that Rosalind is really a girl and that Phoebe is really hitting on a girl.
