As Touchstone Likes It

as-you-like-it In the Shakespeare comedy, As You Like It, many characters under go mistaken identity and dramatic irony. There are several comedic characters in As You Like It such as Cornic and Touchstone. Touchstone is intentionally the jokester of the entire play. Being the jester of Duke Frederick, Touchstone uses physical humor to make the audience laugh. One such scene is when he fell in love with Celia. Following her into the woods (disobeying his lord) Touchstone’s comedic dance and jolly celebrating his alone time with Celia is one of the funniest scenes in the play.
